Welcome to La Pooch Spa

La Pooch Spa provides home-based, custom grooming services in Woodstock, GA that's aimed at eliminating the stress and anxiety of noisy and chaotic grooming environments. Pooches are not rushed, cage dried or left in crates for extended periods. All clients are salon scheduled - meaning only one family is groomed at a time, as scheduled.

With years of experience as a skilled, in-demand and trusted canine stylist, connecting with my fur clients is KEY to the grooming process. I've successfully transformed groom-anxious pups into relaxed, adored and beautifully styled pooches. Their trust means EVERYTHING to me, because It's not "just a groom", it's relationship-building while establishing a bond to ensure the comfort and safety with your best friend.

Excluding the photo of the dog with the toothbrush, all other photos on this site are just some of the pooches I am fortunate to groom, adore and transform. Enjoy!

services

bubbles & blowouts

  • Deep cleansing bath and conditioning treatment
  • Blueberry facial scrub
  • Blown dry and light brush out - no cage drying!
  • Anal gland expression for small breeds
  • Ears cleaned
  • Nails trimmed

deshedding

The deshedding process is crucial to remove unnecessary fur and undercoat from both short, smooth and double-coated breeds. This also allows the skin to adequately aerate and reduces the potential of matting in double-coated dogs.

  • This is a multi-step service using a deshedding shampoo system featuring Coat Release Technology™ designed to help release the undercoat.
  • Pooches are blown-dry with a high-velocity dryer to remove dead coat and, using specialized tools, dead coat is hand removed to enhance the coat's luster and health.

furcuts

It‘s true - dogs not only look better after a groom, but they feel better, too! I create beautiful transformations everyday, and nothing makes me happier than to make them strut away, tail held high while feeling, looking and smelling the best s/he can.

From specialized breed cuts to creative styles - my scissor-finished furcuts emphasize their unique qualities to achieve the perfect La Pooch look.

puppy cut

One of the most important issues to address when welcoming a new puppy is grooming.  For puppies, once UTD on vaccines, establishing a groom routine is essential.

Puppies can be super sensitive, so thoughtfully aclimating them to being away from home within my peaceful setting sets the stage for success. I'll gently introduce your puppy to bathing, brushing, drying and the clipping processes with care.

A puppy's first groom should be minimal, less is more with pups. If they're very matted, however, a shave may be required, but that is NOT preferred for their first groom.  Diverting from a puppy groom is always discussed and performed upon approval by the guardian. The puppy groom package includes:

  • Full bath and conditioning treatment
  • Blueberry facial scrub
  • Brushed and blown out
  • Anal gland expression for small breeds
  • Ears cleaned
  • Nails trimmed
  • Trimming around eyes, paws and sanitary areas

mini groom

Mini grooms are perfect for pooches who are routinely groomed but don't require a full body cut.

  • Full bath and conditioning treatment
  • Blueberry facial scrub
  • Brushed and blown out
  • Anal gland expression for small breeds
  • Ears cleaned
  • Nails trimmed
  • Trimming around eyes, paws and sanitary areas

add on services

  • Medicated Bath
  • Hypoallergenic Bath
  • Nails Dremelled
  • Ear Plucking
  • Sanitary Trim
  • Paws Shaped and Pads Shaved

about lisa

I happened upon grooming after moving from Boston to Canton, GA around 10 years ago; in an effort to reside closer to my brother and his family.

Professionally, my background in Boston was worlds away from canine styling. Employed as a software analyst for pathology and cardiology systems at a major teaching hospital in Boston, and subsequently as a business analyst at a major manufacturing company.  My worklife consisted of project plans, creating system schematics, Power Point presentations, installs and upgrades.  But a change was coming ...

Soon after moving to Georgia, I began bathing dogs at a local pet shop until re-entering corporate - so I thought. Little did I know, spreadsheets and schematics were history.

At the pet shop, I was told I had a way with dogs - I knew that. They trusted me - I felt that. They were happy to see me - I loved that. The clients began to request that only I bathe their dogs - I was honored. I'd arrive early to bathe the less tolerant and/or the seniors to reduce their stress. Shortly thereafter, I purchased clippers, lots of equipment and began to find my style niche and a groomer/stylist was born.

I was a slow learner, painfully so; but I had to be - I was terrified of hurting or cutting a dog. And it was a new experience for many of them - not being pushed, pulled at, rushed on and off the table to make way for another. I wanted them to feel at ease - they did. The other groomers didn't like me - I was flattered. I was about the dogs as individuals - having them relaxed and comfortable.  If it took all day - than it took all day. I was patient, manuevered them with care - they complied.

I learned the art of canine styling through the trust and encouragement of those incredible dogs and parents. It was life-altering. I received immense kindness and trust, unlike any previous role before. I was blown away. I was soon hired by a veterinary hospital, where I continue to groom weekdays. I adore the staff and my clients wholeheartedly. Thankfully, however, many of my original clients from the original pet shop are groomed at my home-based La Pooch Spa, and we couldn't be happier!

La Pooch Spa was born from my extraordinary clientele originating from the local pet shop. My clients continue to enjoy a one-on-one, stress-free experience and picture-perfect grooms, because I won't provide anything less to any dog, ever.
